Hermey was rescued for cold stress in Pine Island Conservation Center, Brevard county, Florida on January 11, 2021. He was 240 centimeters long and weighed 600 pounds at the time of his rescue. Hermey was transported to Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for continued rehabilitation. He was released on February 16, 2021 at Blue Spring State Park in Volusia County. He was 241 centimeters in length and weighed 586 pounds. He will be monitored by Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute.

    • Hermey was first spotted when he was greeting Amelia in the north part of a lake off the St. Johns River. They only stayed together briefly, then he traveled south into a patch of vegetation. He traveled out and back north, then went back to the vegetation and settled down to bottom rest. He bottom rested for the remainder of the visual.

    • Hermey was socializing with Amelia and Irma in a lake off the St Johns River. He milled off on his own near some docks briefly, then swam back over to them. Another manatee passed and he began following it for a few minutes. He then made his way back to Amelia and Irma and they were all stationary together. Hermey followed another manatee over to private docks and he milled around there while Amelia and Irma continued traveling in the opposite direction.
